Y.M.C.A. DIFFICULTIES

PAST YEAR REVIEWED.

NEW OFFICERS ELECTED. A year which revealed remarkable j progress in the face of considerable hnancial embarrassment was reviewed at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Y.M.C.A. last evening. The Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, presided, an apology for absence being received from the president, Mr F. Findlay. Speaking to the report, a director, Mr W. A. Ourteis, said that in common with other branches of the Y.M.C.A. in New Zealand the sustaining membership in Hamilton had dropped considerably, and the sum which had been received from sports bodies and other associations which used the building had only been sufficient to balance the corresponding capital outlay. The public was not doing its part, when during the year sustaining membership had yielded only £6l. The Y'.M.G.A. should be able to pay its way, but instead its building was wholly* in the hands of the National Council. The public did not realise the difficult position of the movement in Hamilton, and he hoped that with the advent of better times the association would be able to wipe off its liabilities. The following officers were elected i President, Mr F. Findlay; vice-presi-dent, Mr J. R. Fow; honorary secretary, Mr N. Rowe; honorary treasurer, Mr G- H. V. Bindon; board of directors, the Rev. S. J. Atkins and Messrs W. A. Curteis, A. Gordon, 'L. Lloyd, J Treloar, E. H. Grocott, E. E. Gillnian, J. Yendall, with two members’ representatives to be appointed.
