Of course, a number of the artists do bring out the individual characteristics of their mediums, as Mervyn Peake, who, in “ Sole and Plaice,” boldly renders Hie tones of Hie fish, and Caret Weigh, who is revealed in his self-portrait as a clever manipulator of paints.

One day T said the phrase while looking at a ralsailed yachl on Regent’s Park lake. Sylvia Gosse, perhaps, heard me. At any rale, her “Jolly Roger in 'Home "waters " shows, unless I am greatly mistaken, the self-same yacht, and it does make a good picture.
