PLUNKET SECRETARY HONOURED.
A very pleasant function took place at the close of the Plunket Society’s annual meeting on Tuesday afternoon, when, as a tribute to the Society s secretary, Aliss Hooker, a surprise afternoon tea had been arranged and a presentation was made. Tea was served in the supper room of the Town Hall and the long table was attractively decorated with bowls of joss lilies and beautiful scarlet and gold rhus leaves. 'ln making the presentation of a handbag, Airs AI. A. Bell (president) expressed the gratitude felt by herself and the committee members towards Aliss Hooker, and their appreciation other work for the Society.
The Mayor, Air C. 11. Priesley, Mrs T. Richards and Airs S. Lewis also made brief speeches to which Aliss Hooker suitably replied. Those present were: The Alayoress, Mrs C. 11. Priestley; Mesdames AI. A. Bell, T. Richards, N. Waddle, R. S. Hanna, F. 'Swayne, Christie, 'G. G. Bell, A. Richardson, Jackson, S. Lewis, J. Ritchie, A. R. Batchelor, S. N. Ziman, 11. Dalllmore, AV. Smellie and 'C. AV. Vennell. •
COMING-OF-AQE PARTY. Mr and Mrs D. Russo, of Roto-o-rangi, gave a very happy party on Saturday evening to celebrate the coming-of-age of 'their daughter Josle. ■Cards and dancing were enjoyed and a guessing competition was won by Misses D. Bright and G. Abel. Mrs (Martin, senr., was the winner of a treasure hunt. During supper the twenty-one candles decorating the beautiful birthday cake were blown out by 'the guest of honour and the toast of the guest of honour, proposed by Mr S. Wiles, was accorded musical honours. Miss Russo suitably replied. At. the conclusion of the evening Mr R. Martin, on behalf of the guests, thanked Mr and -Mrs Russo for a most enjoyable evening.
