CHAIN LETTERS

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I wish to support the protest made by the Students’ Psychology Club against the absurd and harmful custom of chain letters. I received one recently and the sender urged me not to break the chain, as she believed in “something like that." In addition to the usual kind of statement in which the name of God was used the names and addresses of the last five persons who had received the letter were given; also, It gave the names of two persons who had received unexpected good fortune after having forwarded on chain letters. Another named person had suffered misfortune through breaking a chain- I promptly put the •chain letter in the fire, and intend to let the sender know my opinion of this ridiculous custom. I consider that the effect of the receipt of chain letters upon neurotic persons, especially adolescents, Is definitely harmful. This pernicious practice should be discountenanced by all who have the welfare of the community at heart and desire to see this generation grow up with a balanced outlook upon life. —I am, etc., STUDENT.
