Mandei. The surprise appointment is that of M. Regnier, who assumes the burden of the financial and economic crisis. Probably he was chosen for his experience as former rapporteur on the Budget in the Senate. His only previous Cabinet post was the Ministry or the Interior in M. Flandln’s Cabins.. M. The Daily Telegraph’s City editor states that the Bank of France’s return for the week ended May 31 showed a loss of gold totalling £64,000,000, making £145,000,000 since March 29. The latest report states that the gold efflux exceeds all expectations and cannot represent a legitimate movement of capital.

On a question of shelving all interpellations the Chamber of Deputies passed a vote of confidence in the Laval Government by 412 votes to 137, following the promulgation of a Ministerial demand for exceptional powers over a period of five months, in order to combat speculation and defend the franc.

The House adjourned after the Finance Committee had adopted the bill by 19 votes to 14. M. Boulsson was re-elected president of the Chamber by 285 votes to 259.
