THE NATIONAL COUNCIL.

MEETING OF HAMILTON BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Ha.milton branch of the National Council of Women was held in the Lyceum Club rooms on Tuesday evening, Mrs A. M. Bisley presiding. On the resignation of Mrs J. Pren'ton as hon. secretary, Miss Gertrude Roohe was appointed to the position, with the associate delegate vote. The president gave a short account of the life of the late Mrs K. M. Evans, M.A., who was the first woman in the British Empire to gain her B.A. degree and whose life and distinctive career was one long record of service to New Zealand.

It was decided that short accounts ■of the life and work of prominent women in New Zealand be given at the monthly meeting at a later date, Mr F. A. -de la Mare having consented to give the address.

Assistance in Research.

The branch also decided to assist in every possible way the research into diets of New Zealand families by the Faculty of Home Science, University of Otago. Delegates were requested to bring the matter before the notice of their various organisations and to distribute diet record sheets to those who were willing to fill them up. The president expressed the opinion that this research should be of great value in Investigating the average diets of New Zealand families. It was decided to hold the next monthly meeting of the Council on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 2, in order to give town and country friends an opportunity of attending.
