STREET WORKS

RECORD IN BOROUGH.

RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS. INTERESTING FIGURES. Speaking in furtherance of his campaign for the Hamilton mayoralty at Hamilton East last evening the Mayor (Mr J. R. Fow) gave a detailed statement of the street improvements made in the town from revenue lrom May 1933 to April 1935. Permanent street works carried out during that period, he said, comprised:

Frankton Area. Kerbing and channelling in Kent Street, Moana Street, Marama Street, Massey Street, Waterloo Street, Norton Road, Seddon Road. * (Length 194 chains. Cost £855). Asphalt footpaths in Kent Street, partly completed while preparations aredn hand for doing Lake Road (part), Ellis Street (part), Bandon Street (part), Greenwood Street (part); Tainui Street and Massey Street (part). (Length authorised 93 chains, estimated cost £273; expenditure to date £so).’

Asphalt roads. Lake Road, King Street (end), Keddell Street, Tainui Street, Rifle Range Road, Empire Street, Ellis Street, Torringlon Ave. (Length 101 chains; cost £SS(J. Total expenditure Frankton area, £1515). 1

Hamilton and Whltlora Areas. Kerbing and channelling in Anglesea Street, Ward Street, Tisdale Street, Radnor Street, Pembroke Street, Ohaupo Road, Lake Crescent, Palmerston Street, Ruakhvi Street, Clarence Street, Grantham Street, Victoria Street, Ulster Street.. (Total length 404 chains; cost £2138). Asphalt footpaths in Knox Street, London Street, Willoughby Street, Tristram Street, Hinemoa Street, Palmerston Street, while Ruakhvi Street is in hand. This latter work will serve as the main path from Frankton to the Hospital and does not serve any residential area of Hamilton at all. (Total length completed 141 chains; cost £370). (Ruakiwi Street 49 chains estimated £156).

Asphalt roads in Ulster Street, Loni don Street, Garden Place, Marlborough Place, Clarence Street, Grantham Street. Length 50 chains. Cost £275. Expenditure Hamilton area, £2783. Also the North and South entrances to the . town have been asphalted full width. This work serves the whole town and not any particular section. Cost £I2OO. Total £3983.

Hamilton East Area.

Kerbing and channelling in River Road (Memorial Park), Wellington Street, Dawson Street, Grey Street (.Total length 111 chains; cost £548). Asphalt footpaths in River Road, Firth Street,. Galloway Street. Total length 98 chains; cost £264. Asphalt roads. —Cook Street (end), Von Tempsky Street, Dawson Street, Wellington Street, Galloway Street. Total length 84 chains. Cost £460. Also the widening of asphalt in Grey Street at a cost of £266. Total expenditure in Hamilton East, £1538. (It should be pointed out that the kerbing and channelling and asphalting of the footpath of River Road along the Memorial Park frontage, while in the Hamilton East area really serves the whole town. This work cost £285).

Glaudelands Area. Iverbing and channelling'in Te Aroha Street, Boundary Road. Length 43 chains. Cost, £‘l33. Asphalt footpaths. River Road, O’N'eiil Street, llukanui Road. Length 107 chains. Cost, £321. (Total, Glaudelands, £554). Works authorised by present Council, either in hand since April 4/ or about to be commenced:

Hamilton.—Anglesea Street, kerbing and channelling (completed), £150; Hill Street, kerbing.and channelling (completed), £150; Ruakiwi Street footpath, £ls(j; Selkirk Street, kerbing and channelling, £126; Mill Street, £6O; total £642. Frankton. —Footpaths as_ stated, £223; Lake Road, kerbing and channelling, £B2; Kent Street, kerbing and channelling, £105; Keddell Street, kerbing and channelling, £105; Norton Road (completed), £120; total, £635.

Hamilton East.—Von Teinpsky Street, kerbing and channelling, £148; Beaie Street, kerbing and channelling, £3O; Galloway' Street foolpath, £120; total, £298. Glaudelands. —Piako Road, kerbing and channelling, £97; total £97. Summary of works authorised and carried out: —
