REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. - i . t MEETING IN HAMILTON.' The opening weekly meeting of the Hamilton Rugby Referees’ Association was held this week, the vice-president, Mr T. R. Frazer, presiding before a large gathering of referees. The meeting passed a motion of appreciation to Mr S. E. Senior for past services as the association delegate to the management committee. An election for a new delegate was held, Mr T. Shannon being successful. A few new members were proposed and accepted subject to the usual formalities. Mr B. S. Marshall, who represented the Waikato Association as a delegate to the New Zealand Rugby Referees Association conference at Invercargill gave the meeting a report on the conference and fully dealt with the alterations and new rules to come lnlo force this season, the main ones being as follows: After an unconverted try the ball is to be drop-kicked from the centre of the field but should a try be converted the old method of placing the ball will be continued with.

The ball to be fairly into a scrummage now has only to pass one footof each side and be on the ground whilst the fourth foot can be raised as soon as this has been done, but ■the second and third feet cannot be raised until the ball has passed them. A player who has left the held cannot return and start replaying until first obtaining'the consent of the referee.

The opposing team can now charge over the ten yards line after the ball has been kicked off at half way.
