FROM CROYDON AERODROME.

SEVEN YEARS’ PENAL SERVITUDE

John Swanland. was sentenced to seven years’ penal servitude in connection with the theft of £20,000 in gold from Croydon Aerodrome. He had seven previous convictions. He left the dock smiling.
Counsel urged that Swanland had not been involved until after the gold had been stolen. He denied participation in the theft.
