DEATH OF INFANT.
WRONGFUL FEEDING. CORONER’S INVESTIGATIONS. WELLINGTON, Friday. The coroner, Mr Gilbertson, to-day Investigated the circumstances of the death of a Maori infant at Wainui, near Paekakariki, and found -It due to malnutrition. He said he was satisfied it was not a case of deliberate negleot, but it was a mystery bow a fostermother. having a number of children of her own, should not have heen able to detect that something was wrong. Questioned, the woman said she had taken the child, whose father was a second cousin of hers, because her own children were .going away. She had fed her own children in the same way as this baby. The district nurse gave evidence that she thought it was a case of wrongful feeding, and not a case of neglect. Asked directly if, there were such a thing as “baby-farming” going on at Wainui, she said positively that there was not.
