EXHIBITION IN LONDON.
PAINTINGS BY RENOIR. FOUND IN STUDIO AFTER DEATH, A London writer 'says: At Agnews’ Gallery is an exhibition of seventeen paintings by Renoir, from the -collections of the painter’s family, most a part of th-e "legacy” found in h'is studio after .death. Two of the smaller pieces, “Port de la Rochelle" and “Paysage a Nice,” are particularly good, especially the former. “La ißeverle" is a more Important figure -canvas which the painter has carried out brilliantly In clear tones. “Le Torrent” and “La Tonelle” are good examples of his later, looser -style of landscape painting. A “ Charming ” Collection. The opponents of cubism may find at the Mayor Gallery a particularly
] "charming” collection of 'the works of I Picasso, Gris, and Leger. I use the I word charming deliberately because, while frequently these antists repudiate any apparent desire to please, we I can here catch them in a softer mood. ! .Many of the paintings arc so distant I from all hint of aridity that one would i have to lie a very rigid academician lo | resist their appeal.
