SOME INTERESTING IMPRESBIONSBY NEW ZEALAND ACTRESS. “Australians have every reason to be proud of their artists who have gained fame abroad, both on the screen and stage,” said Ethel Morrison, the New Zealand actress, of the “Roberta” company, when addressing business girls at luncheon at David Jones’s, Sydney. Talking of Hollywood stars, Miss Morrison mentioned Mona Barrie (Mona Bailee, daughter of the wellknown comedian Phil Smith), who, she said, was going a long way in her profession, and John Wood, another Australian actor. She Knew Clark Gable. Miss Morrison told the girls that she knew Clark Gable, who was a charming man to meet in private life. He loved his home, and was never happier than when sitting by the fire smoking a-pipe and telling his friends of his life before he became famous. The popular iscreen star liked riding and driving, and had a keen sense of humour. When in New York Miss Morrison saw Clark Gable when he made his personal appearance in- a play. He created such a furore that he had to be taken secretly out of the back of the theatre to prevent him being mobbed. “These Hollywood stars,” said Miss Morrison, “are often mobbed. Some people go as far as tearing the buttons off their clothes for souvenirs." Charm of Jeanette Mao Donald. Another star mentioned by Miss Morrison was Jeanette MacDonald, who appeared with the actress in a musical play. “She is a charming, lovable girl, with also a sense of humour,” isaid the speaker. Paying a tribute to Australians, Miss Morrison said that she had travelled all over the world, hut never had she found more loyal audiences than there. “If they like you they like you, and never forget you-”
