BATTERED TO PIECES.
FISHING CRAFT WRECKED.| APPALLING DEATH ROLL. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright LONDON, March 1. A message from Casablanca, a seaport on the west coast of Morocco, states that an appalling death-roll attended rescue efforts when a Spanish smack was driven on to rocks in the vicinity. Altogether 22 people were drowned. The little fishing vessel was driven on to the rocks in a terrifle gale. Huge seas pounded it mercilessly and it was soon battered to pieces, A lifeboat put off from the shore to go to the rescue of the Spanish fishermen, but the craft was powerless in t'he angry sea and capsized, 12 men being drowned. The crew of the fishing smack was in a hopeless position. Ten of the fishermen wore drowned, but one managed : to fight his way through the waves and reach the shore.
