BODY IN THE RIVER. ATTEMPTS TO IDENTIFY. Ail efforts on the part of the Hamilton police lo establish the identity of the man whose body was recovered from the Waikato River at Hamilton on January 21 have so far proved fruitless. It will be recalled that the body wps first seen on the south side of the Leamington Bridge at Cambridge at 4.30 p.m. on January 20. As the bands and feet were lied with twine there was a suggestion of foul play, but this theory has now been definitely discarded. I-n order to assist in the man’s identification the Hamilton police today made available a detailed description of him. It is considered the body had been Jn the water about five weeks.

He was a man of 'between 50 and GO years of age. sft. Sin in height, of strong build, clean-shaven, and probably bald. He had no teeth when found. Tiie man was dressed in grey trousers and coat, but no waistcoat., white woollen underpants, a brown striped shirt, white woollen singlet, suspenders and dark woollen sox with large holes in them. lie had a softstriped collar, cut in two, around his toes. The shoes were black, size 8, and had recently been re-soled. Many Tattoo Marks. Taltooed on la is right forearm on the inside was what appeared to be an Irish harp. Anolhcr tattoo mark nearer Hie wrist was not recognisable. On Hie outside of IliV right forearm a horse-shoe with flower scroll around it, were tattooed. On Hie right upper arm an eagle, snake, flowers and roses were tattooed, (hi the left forearm on the outside there was a butterfly, an American flag, eagle and shield. ♦" The only articles found in his possession were a blade razor in case, spectacles in case, while-handled pocket-knife with two blades, piece of shaving soap, and rosary beads with cross around neck.
