WHATAWHATA NOTES.

, KARAKARIKI SCHOOL PICNIC. A most enjoyable picnic was held on Thursday, December 20, at the Karakariki School, children and parents enjoying themselves immensely. The winners of the races were:— Tiny tots, Elva Morris 1, Mcrvyn B.uckley 2: girls and- boys 6 to 8 yrs., Alecia Magner 1, Sidney Holt 2; boys’ race, Joseph Boucher 1, Lawrence •Klrkbride 2; girls, Peggy Holt 1, 01wyn Buckley 2; relay race, girls v. boys, won by the girls (Peggy Holt, Betty Davies, Olwyn Buckley, Barbara Kirkbride and Thelma Rougher) ; 3legged race, girls, Thelma Bougher and Olwyn Buckley; eating apple on string, Frances Magner i, Joseph Boucher 2. A game of musical chairs arranged by “Uncle Dan” (Mr D. Bryant) was enjoyed by the adults as well as children. There were lollie scrambles and ice creams galore kindly supplied by Mr Smith. A sumptuous Christmas tea, jellies, iced cakes, fruit, etc., all the tilings dear to children, was served, and the children did justice to it. Father Christmas then arrived and presented each child with a suitable gift from lhe gaily decorated Christmas tree. Later on in the evening a community singing and dancing was enjoyed. Vocal solos by the .Misses Jean and Phyllis Sharp were much appreciated. Mr Money kindly supplied the dance music and received a hearty vole of thanks for same. A Christmas cake made and beautifully iced by Mrs U. Holt was won by Mr F. .1. Magner., 'l'lie singing of “Atild Lang Sync" brought a very pleasant time to a ■close.
