NATURE NOTES.

, A POOR CHICKEN. We have a black ben with four little chickens There were four, but one of the men killed Hie Tourth because it was t blind. There was a skin over each eye and the poor ’little thing sat still all the time. It would have died, so we thought it best to have it killed. . June Catley (13).

CHRISTMAS FOR THE BIRDS. Yesterday I put a tin of water and some crumbs on the lawn for the birds. 1 watched to see If any birds came, and before long there was quite a collection of sparrows and blackbirds. After dinner, when I looked to sec the birds eating the crumbs, they were all gone. Today I saw a sparrow having a bath In the tin or water. It ruffled Its feathers in the water and then It sat on the lawn to get dry. After a while I saw another sparrow having a bath, and having finished, It shook Its feathers and flew away. Beverley Vernall (11).

CHRISTMAS LILIES. As I arrived at school one morning last week I espied the first Christmas lilies. I was so surprised, but even more when I went a little further and noticed some beautiful gladioli. Audrey Oliver (12). This note Is interesting because the Christmas lilies have been in bloom In Hamilton for sortie weeks now. THREE BABY CANARIES. We have three baby canaries, Peter. We reed them on boiled egg mashed up very flnely. When the eggs aro laid the father and mother birds have turn about sitting on the nest. When the eggs ar# hatched they are kept very busy reeding their young ones. When the birds are fully grown, the rather bird sings while the mother bird hatches young ones, and so on and on through life.
