Trotting at Epsom

AUCKLAND MEETING. SUMMER CARNIVAL CONTINUED. DERBY TO SUBSIDY. ELECTRIC BELL WINS TRAMWAY. CHAMPION TO INDIANAPOLIS. (Times Special Reporter.) , AUCKLAND, Saturday. The Auckland Trotting Club’s Summer carnival meeting was continued at Epsom to<-day in perfect weather. There was a fair attendance and the track was in excellent order. Winner trained by J. T. Paul, Mangere. Te Kahu was backed down inside evens with £679 from Mute £473 and Polly Pan £436 1 OS. . . Te Kahu skipped slightly at jhe start, Grand Triumph and Polly Pan taking up the early running, the latter showing tne w r ay past the stands to Ando Patch, Grand Triumph and Te Kahu'with a gap back to Wahnooka, Mountain Sun and Autumn Lu. Going out or the straight Grand Triumph broke and along the back Polly Pan and Audo Patch were followed closely dy Te Kahu with a gap of two lengths back to Grand Triumph and a big gap back to Autmn Lu, Mountain Sun and Wahnooka. Crossing the top Polly Pan went up in the air and Te Kahu was followed into tne straight by Audo Patch and Polly Pan. In the run home Te Kahu drew out to win decisively by three lengths from Bofly Pan who came’ again to beat Audo Patch by half a length. Wahnooka was fourth followed by Mountain Sun, Grand Triumph and Mute. Times, 3.26 2-5, 3.31 1-5, 3.31 3-5, 3.23 1-5. Te Kahu, who tvon on two occasions in Auckland last season was having his first start of’the season and he'-outclassed the opposition. He is in nice order. Polly Pan would have given the winner more trouble had she not broken at a critical stage in the proceedings.

Cherrill and Superfine broke at the start and Bonny Azureywas slow to move. Going out or the straight (Proletarian and Subsidy were in the lead from Kewpie’s Crest and Bonny Azure. Passing the stands Proletarian was out hair-a-lengtb from Subsidy with Bonny Azure, Kewpie’s crest, Cherrill and Superfine in that order. Proletarian had a break or a length over Subsidy along the back with Bonny Azure five lengths away l'our lengths in front or Kewpie’s Crest. Subsidy moved up on Proletarian approaching tho straight and the pair levelled up for home together some six lengths clear or Azure. Subsidy asserted himseir hair away down the running, but Proletarian came again and a fine finish ensued. The pair flashed past the post practically together, Subsidy getting the verdict by half-a-head, while Bonny Azure was four lengths behind Proletarian. Kewpie’s Crest was rourth in front or Cherrill and Superfine. Times: 3.23 1-5, 3.53 2-5, 3.27, 3.28 2-5. Subsidy was always going kindly and finished bn gamely. Proletarian appeared a trifle unlucky, a pleasing feature or his display being the manner in which he finished. He was going great guns at the end. When they were fairly on their way ' Agnes Bingen and Rongo Mai broke badly, Electric Bell, showing the way past the stands to Nelson Luvan, Rongo Mai and Muriel Rond with Great Chum and Rare Rey following. Rongo Mai again went up in the air along the back where the positions

or the horses were unaltered. Crossing the top the order was unchanged. Electric Bell was the first to turn for home followed by Muriel Bond, Nelson Luvan, Rongo Mai, and King’s Play. In the run home Electric Bell came through to win comrortably by two and a-hair lengths from King’s Play who finished rast to beat Muriel Bond by one and a-quarter lengths. Rongo Mai was fourth followed by Nelson Luvan, Home Brew, Rare Rey, Great Chum. Times.' 2.47 2-5, 2.48 1-5, 2.49, 2.49 1-5. Electric Bell was always going well and stayed on solidly at the end. King’s Play showed speed at the end and Muriel Bond finished on strongly. Rongo Mai spoilt her chances by breaking. An Inquiry. An Inquiry was held by the chief stipendiary steward, Mr F. J. Beer, with regard to Electric Bell on whom the investments to-day were far in advance or the investments on the horse the first day of the meeting. The explanation of the owner and trainer of the horse that they had invested £2O on both days and that they could not account for the advance to-day was accepted. INNOVATION HANDICAP. Chancellor was a firm fancy with £1154 from Great Parrish £lOl4, and Colonial Boy £524, Francis Lincoln being fourth favourite with £446 10s entrusted on him. Dan Direct was a little slow to move and Homeward went up in-the air early. Going out of the straight Great Parrish fell and Colonial Boy, who was breaking slightly led past the stands , from Francis ’Lincoln, Dan Direct, Pukemiro, Homer ward, Realty and Chancellor. Colonial Boy and Francis Lincoln were together along the back where Chancellor made a forward move. There was no alteration across the top, Chancellor lying fourth behind Colonial Boy, Francis Lincoln and Dan Direct as the straight was reached. In a good flnlsh Chancellor came through to win nicely by a length from Francis Lincoln who was half-a-length in front of Dan Direct. Colonial BOy was close up fourth followed by Nimbus, Realty, Pukemiro and Homeward. Times; 3.20 3-5, 3.21, 3.22 1-5, 3.22 2-5.

Blue Mountain, Indianapolis and First 'Flight all broke at the start, Arabond leading early and passing the stands was twelve lengths clear of Kewpie’s Triumph, Indianapolis, Glenrossie Auburn Lad and Impromptu. Along the back Indianapolis had run up to within eight lengths of Arabond with Kewpie’s Triumph handy in front of Auburn Lad, Impromptu, Glenrossie and Roi L’Or. Indianapolis ; -had practically bridged the gap across the top and led Into the straight from Auburn Lad, Arabond and Roi L’Or. In the run home Roi L’Or challenged strongly but could not overhaul the favourite who won decisively by one and a-quarter lengths from Roi 'L’Or who beat Impromptu by one length. Auburn Lad was fourth In front or Glenrossie, Kewpie’s Triumph and Arabond. Times: 2.39, a course record. 2.36 2-5 (a world’s grass track record over the distance), 3.38 4-5, 3.39. Indianapolis fully justified the confidence placed on him, finishing with a rattle at the end. Roi L’Or was going great guns at the end as also was Impromptu. J. T. Paul Injured. When Great Parrish fell In the Innovation Handicap his owner-rider, J. T. Paul received concussion and abrasions and was admitted to Hospital in a rairly serious condition. An Inquiry was held into Great Parrish railing, F. J. Smith stating that some horse In rront of him stopped somewhat and he had to ease up. Great Parrish, who was coming fast Trom the rear hit Smith’s wheel. No action was taken.
