CHINESE COMMUNISTS.
RETREAT BEFORE TROOPS. ANXIETY DISPELLED.. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright, SHANGHAI, Dec. 27. The anxiety that was felt regarding the safety of Wuhu and other important centres along the Yangtse River following Communist depredations in Southern Anhwei has been dispelled. Supported by aeroplanes Government troops are reported to have successfully driven the biggest Communist force, consisting of 50,000 men, toward the mountainous regions. This has removed the immediate threat to Wuhu. There is still no reassuring report about the safety of the two captive missionaries, Messrs. A. Dayman, of Auckland and Bosshardt, of Switzerland, who were captured on October 9.
