FRUIT AND PRODUCE. APPLES SLOW OF SALE. SMALLER SUPPLY OP EGGS. As a result 'Of orchard apples ripening in larger quantities, following upon the continued dry weather, apples are meeting with only a moderate demand on the Hamilton markets. The warm weather has also accelerated supplies of tomatoes, which are selling at prices below last week’s quotations. Thames apricots, which are coming forward freely, are meeting with a good demand, but ripe bananas are very scarce and are commanding high prices. The latest fruit quotations are as follows: —Apples, Delicious* 3s ’to ss; Stunner, 3s to 7s; Dougherty, Is 6d to 3s. Pears, Winter Nelis, 5s to 7s; tomatoes, 3s to 10s, according to quality; apricots, 6s to 12s; plums, Hale’s Early, 3s to 4s; Cooking, 2s to 3s. Strawberries, Captain Cooks, is 3d to is 9d chip; Marguerites, Is to is 3d; Jamaican oranges, 40s to 455; ripe bananas, 40s. Values for Vegetables. In consequence of the dry weather green peas and beans are coming to hand in reduced ’quantities, while lettuce is also scarce. The ruling prices for vegetables are as follows; —Cucumbers, 2s doz; gree.n peas, 10s to 12s sugar bag; beans, 4d lb; marrows, 4s to 6s doz; carrots and beet, Is doz; onions, os to 6s sugar bag; potatoes, 3s 6d to 4s 6d sugar hag; lettuce, 5s to 7s case. Produoe and Cereals. There has been little variation in prices for produce and cereals on the local market during the past week. Wheat is fairly steady at 6s per bushel, while mixed grain is making 4s 9d and maize 4s 6d. Oats is selling at 4s 3d for A Cartons and" 4s for B Gartons, and chaff is realising £8 10s a ton. Pollard commands 7s 9d per lOOlbs. and bran 7s 6d. * Eggs, Butter and Fish.. There has been a decline in supplies of hen eggs, which are now up ■to Is 4d per doz. Butter is unchanged at Is for first grade and lid for second. Most varieties of fish are in fairly good supply, with flounder somewhat restricted, and crayfish very scarce. Prices are on a par with late rates.
