PLAGUE OF SNAKES.
SEYMOUR INVADED. BROUGHT DOWN BY FLOODS. MELBOURNE, Dec. 17. Hundreds of snakes have invaded the township of Seymour, about 80 miles from Melbourne,- during the past week, and over 500 have been killed. Residents are alarmed, and children are. being kept in their homes. The snakes came down -from the Goulburn River during the recent floods, and were deposited on the flats. As the river subsided, they were seen hanging in dozens from trees and bushes. There are many varieties of snakes, including the brown snake, tiger snake, and copper head. On the river bank at the railway bridge alone, 78 snakes were killed yesterday.
