The most pleasing feature qf the day’s play from a Canterbury point of view was the fine stand made by Bellamy and Kerr in their opening partnership. They played most patient and careful cricket. TO-DAY’S PLAY. STRONG WIND PREVAILS. (Uy Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The Plunket Shield match, Canterbury v. Auckland, was resumed to-day. The conditions were anything but promising when Kerr (40) and Bellamy (37) resumed the innings. The weather was cloudy, with a strong south-wester. The batsmen started carefully against the bowling of Cowie and Townsend. Bellarpy brought the hundred up after 115 minutes by driving a full toss from Cowie to the off boundary. Ten more runs had been added when Cowie clean-bowled Kerr. 110—1—46. Kerr batted 125 minutes and hit seven fours. Keeping the Batsmen Quiet. Canterbury lost another wicket soon after, Bellamy going lbw to Townsend. 112—2—49. Cowie was bowling well, keeping the batsmen comparatively quiet.

Page brought 130 up with a cut off Cowie through the slips to the boundary.

Cromb started carefully, but soon livened up and reached 20 with a iusty drive off Townsend, which bounded over the fence. He continued to bat brightly, but when 38 was caught at cover by Bush, off Cowie. He hit seven fours. His innings lasted 48 minutes. 15G—3 —38. Oliver .joined Page. Canterbury then still had to make 81 runs for a win. To the Boundary. Oliver cut Cowie to the boundary and turned him to fine leg for a pair. Townsend came on, and lys good length kept Page fairly subdued. The score crept up, however, both men penetrating the slip cordon. One hundred and seventy appeared. Thirteen was the devil’s number for Page. A kicking ball from Cowie struck him on the glove, and Vivian took an easy catch at silly mid-oil. 172—4—13 Page was batting well, and his dismissal was unlucky. Cowie had three wickets for 48 runs Hadlee joined Oliver, and turned Townsend to the fine leg fence. \ Oliver Missed. Oliver brought 180 up with a late cut off Cowie, also a boundary the next ball.
