CHRISTMAS SEASON.
i j (To the Editor.) \ . Sir, —The news from all parts of 5 j the world indicate that the dark days 1 have taken their departure, and that t we have reason to hope, we are now 3 on the road to better times. I do not 1 think that the depression through > which-we have passed has been an ' unmixed evil. It has been a blessing • in many ways, and especially in the / direction of widening sympathy, for 3 the unfortunate and quickening recognition of their claims. It was heartening to read in the t cable messages from all countries of t the general desire to provide for the j needy and to ensure that none should j suffer want during the festive season. This is -good so far as it goes; it is j devoutly, to be hoped that the sym--2 pathy and kindlipess which have been f aroused will not be permitted to hibernate, but will be kept active and , operative as long as the need exists. J Christmas has given us an exemplit ilcation of the Christ spirit, but if such 3 exemplification is to be effective it ' must not be confined to any one day j or special season. In your able leading article on Monday you expressed the opinion that Christmas without the } Christ is frankly unthinkable. It was 3 an admix-able sentiment well expressed, v but it should be carried much further. 3 We are a professedly Christian nation, v and as such it should be our aim to a exhibit the Christ spirit every day of . the year. If we did so I for one am convinced that our social problems would speedily solve themselves.—l . am, etc., , ' ' . t ANAK. t Hamilton, December 25,-1934. i,•- btiH 'it- ... ■ - , 1
