ARCHBISHOP OF LIVERPOOL' VERY WITTY SPEAKER. ) The Archbishop of Liverpool (DP. Downey) proved the truth of a remark by the Lord Mayor (Alderman Parker) that not only was he a brilliant scholar, preacher and author, but he had the gift of unusual wit, says a Sydney paper. “ That reminds me of the Athenian Senator whose little son had died," said Dr. Downey at the civic reception to him to-day. “At the funeral an immense concourse of people turned up. The Lieutenant-Governor (Sir Philip Street) and other distinguished citizens also attended. At the Millions Club luncheon at ■Sydney Archbishop I(jwney gave an address on personality. The Apostolic Delegate (Archbishop Bernadiai) was also a guest, of the club.
