BOXING DAY PROGRAMS

LARGE FIELDS ENGAGED AT ELLERSLIE - OPENING OF SUMMER CARNIVAL i RACING AT NEW PLYMOUTH MANAWATU AND DUNEDIN FIXTURES Racing and trotting programmes will be .carried out throughout the Dominion on Boxing Day, and the .chief interest will oentre on the opening day of the Auckland Racing Club’s Summer Carnival, which this year will be under Royal patronage. The meeting should be one of the best experienced by the club for many years. The Taranaki and Manawatu olubs will also open their summer programmes, and as both have Interesting fields engaged the racing public in' those centres will be fully catered for. There will be racing also at Dunedin, Westland, and Waipukurau, and the annual non-’totallsator fixture of the Alexandra Club should attract a good attendance at Plrongia. Trotting programmes will be observed at Mksterton, Ashburton and Gore.

ELLERSLIE OPENING GREAT FIELDS ENGAGED. FIFTEEN IN AUCKLAND CUP. A FINE SPRINT CONTEST. 'PROSPECTS UNDER REVIEW. 'Horses from practically all parts of the Dominion will he competing at the Auckiand Racing Club’s Summer carnival at Ellerslie. Throughout the programme splendid fields lare engaged and great racing is assured. The country’s best handicap horses will be contesting the Auckland Cup and a galaxy of- sprinting talent will face the starter in the Railway Handicap. The fixture, which will be .under the patronage of His Royal Highness, tho Duke of Gloucester, promises to he one of 111 c most successful held by the club in recent years. Following arc Hie fields engaged with a review of the prospects by “Martian”:— 11.52 QUEEN’S PLATE. Of £300; three-year-olds 8.0, four-year-olds and upward 8.9, inares allowed slb; 1 mile.

. There ds .'some 'interesting laic (it engaged and the Trentham and Feilding form of 'Cherry -King suggests excellent chances for the 'Chief Ruler gelding. King 'Musk performed well on I,lie second day of the Takapuna meeting and appeals as a likely improver. Scotland is a prospect and Sea Fox will need but In "(produce liis Riccarlon form lo lie in 11 1 e picture. Valpai and Lagoon must be considered, but do not appeal as much as Kelly, the form horse of the race, lie lias won in his last two starts over the distance and his victory in the Pupuke Plate on Ihc second day of the Takapuna meeting at Ellerslie was achieved in convincing manner. Tie will take a lot of beating on Wednesday. Nun Nicer has run some good races rcecnlly and Respectful is capable of improvement on his showing at Te Awamutu. The Khedive and Lady Kyra appeal over the others, especially the latter whose good second in the Trentham Stakes to Svnagogue draws attention to her prospects. The final summing up is likely to favour the chances of—

KELLY LADY KYRA CHERRY KING

The field Is the most open that has contested this race for years and few can he ruled out ol' calculation's. Alchemic will Probably be reserved for the Nursery Handicap. -Gay Sheik, llaut Monde and Legatee should all run a solid six. Haul 'Monde won the Balmoral Stakes at Trentham in which Legatee finished third, but the latter on this occasion will be meeting the former on more favourable terms and as lie was finishing on lie may turn the tables on Wednesday. Fairfax has been left in her last two starts, but. if she gets away she will not be out of it. The Biccarton Welcome Slakes winner, Symcony, is a consistent filly and ihc fact that she has not been out f a place in tier last six starts will claim her a staunch following. But Fight and Galilee arc a solid pair and il will lie interesting lo see how the la 11 or will fare against ihc southern juveniles. She is in ureal heart for her engagement. Lin’y Divine is a strong possibility. It should be a fine race and favouritism is likely to lie divided between— GALILEE HALT MONDE svMtai.w

The luck of the running will no doubt have a bearing on the issue. A number of the lighter-weighted division are preferred to Matorni and Killadar and among 'these are Crooning, who raced well at Ellerslie, Coronis, who won at Te Awamutu, Big Dook and Adalene. The last named will need only to repeat In her race the work she has put in on the tracks to be with the leaders at the end. Tunneller will advance In favour as the result of his Trentham -success ana he may prove one of the hardest to dispose of. Silver Briar, Royal Appellant, Merry Lap and Horn’s Reef are possibilities. Interest will attach to -the showing of the Te Rapa trained Lion Heart, who will be having his first race since his return from the other side. Recently he has been hitting out pleasingly in his trials at headquarters and.is in good heart to give a -solid account of himself. The public, -however, may prefer the credentials of— TUNNELLER CROONING LION HEART 2.27 , AUCKLAND CUP. or £l-150 and gold cup valued at £SO; 2 . . miles.

The 'Cup field of 1934 is one of the most even that has-contested this event in recent years. Altogether It is an exceptionally Interesting field. The top-weight, Vintage, won the Metropolitan Handicap with 9.0 and is a -good one. Solarium has done well up to a mile and a half and despite his disappointing form In the Duke of -Gloucester Handicap at Trentham the other week must lie treated with every respect. King March appeals as the best stayer of the field, lie won over a mile and 'three-quar-ters in Sydney and in his last outing at To Awamutu was finishing on in the gamest possible fashion. What heats him should win. 'Gay 'Marigold, who wiil be bracketed with him on the machine, is a game little mare who should account for more than beat her. 'Gold Trial’s second in the New Zealand Clip was a performance -UutL stamps her as a strong contender for major honours and she will have splendid Illness on her side. Kiltowyn too, is a distinct possibility and is bred Lho right way.' on Jiis sire's side, to see the distance out. Many are of opinion that the best has yet to be seen of the son of Killironey. Spiral and Grand Jury have good recent form to commend them and,- like Southdown, will not lack friends on llie day. Baroscope does not appeal in the class, but Caliente, at the weights, is by no means out of it. Her fine finishing effort at Trentham over a mile and three furlongs suggests her as having excellent prospects. She is bred on sound staying lines and is obviously on the up grade. Great Star is the best of the others in a great race in which there should bo good support forthcoming for— KING MARCH bracket KILTOWYN. VINTAGE 3.12 GLOUCESTER STEEPLECHASE. or £iooo; about 3 miles.

Billy 'Boy and Valpeen are a reliable pair of ’chasers and will be assisted by their ability to fence cleanly. The latter has been shaping- well in his schooling (rials. Callamart is a fine slayer, who, if right on the day will he hallling on at Die end. Wee Pat shock! experience little difficulty In handling the journey and Thespis’ brilliant fencing ensures him an excellent chance. ltuby Meteor, the To ltapa hope for the big cross-coun-try event, lias been racing with a consistency that is a tribute to tier splendid fitness and she may be one of the most difficult lo dispose of. Neil also possesses good credentials and Palm, who was running on al Tc Awonuitu, is a possibility. Copey has good form and Jayson has prospects. Absent is nicely weighted for the part and (lie fact that he won over the distance on this course al ihc last Takapuna meeting will claim him u strong following. SI. Warrigal. Cargen and Cynical Kid arc Ihc best of 11 1 e remainder. II i~ a race full of possibilities but a Irio lo be well supported may be ABSENT Til F.SpIS Ill'BY METEOR

RAILWAY HANDICAP. Of £750; G fur.

A galaxy of speed merchants is engaged and the horse with ability to Jump out smartly will have a lot in his ttivour in a fast run race. Sporting Blood will probably be reserved for the -Christmas Handicap. Rereatu and Rerepai arc possibilities,- but do not appeal over Diatomous and Gay Blonde, both of whom are possessed of a -torrent of speed and what is further Important do not loiter in the early stages. 'Coypist, Cranford and British Columbia must be treated with respect and Star Artist will need only to jump out smartly to be in the Picture. Sinking .Fund and 'Grand Sport arc handily placed at the weights and the grey -should hold (he former safe, •llis slashing victory in the Stewards’ Handicap at Riccarlon was achieved in impressive -fashion as the time, 1.10 2-5, fully bears out. Namakio lias lho necessary early Pace to leave the barrier quickly and she makes a strong, appeal at the weights. Silver Jubilee- is -the best of the lightweights and the good impression he created at the Takapuna meeting will not readily be forgotten. They are an even lot but the public may pay most attention to —- NAMAKIA GRAND SPORT DIATOMOUS 4.47 NURSERY HANDICAP. Of £27 5; two-year-olds; 5 fur.

A number of those engaged here are entered for the .Great Northern Foal Stakes and these include Symcony, 'Kolou, Alchemic, Going Gay and Bun Fight. If any of them are reserved they will be the hardest to account for. Triune won on the first day of the Takapuna meeting and is an excellent prospect. Du 'Barry is not making Ihc trip for the first day of the meeting. Lady Ruler is a good one and will he all the better for her race at Waipa. Parquet showed promise in her. only start at the Waikato meeting and Light Comedy's track work suggests that she ‘should be close up at the end. The remainder of the field has done little to commend it. The final summing up may point to — TRIUNE BOUND UP KOTOU

Golden 'Wings is a great milcr and were lie to produce bis best form be would take a lot of beating but al presold lie dues not appeal over'Gay Marigold and Gold Trail, who. however, also claim engagemeiUs in I lie Clip. Sweet Agnes and Sporting Blood have proved Ilieniselves over Ihc distance and are sere lo rim solid races. Persian is a possibility, while Bcrealu should not be mil of il.
