THE KING’S ACCESSION

THE 25TH. ANNIVERSARY.

GREAT PROGRAMME ARRANGED. INAUGURATED ON MAY 6. RUGBY, December 24. The Prime Minister stated in the House of Commons to-day that the official celebrations in London in connection with the 25th anniversary of the King’s accession to the Throne will be inaugurated on May 6 by a thanksgiving service in St. Paul’s Cathedral, which the King and Queen and members of the Royal'Family will attend. During the celebrations in London the King will receive the diplomatic corps and representatives of the overseas Empire. Addresses will also be presented to His Majesty by both Houses of Parliament.'

The King and Queen hope during the celebrations to undertake processional drives in different parts of London.

Mr MacDonald said the King is especially anxious that great expense should not be incurred in the way of decorations in these districts, so that if the weather is unfavourable the drive may be postponed until another day.

Included in the programme of celebrations will be a naval review at Spithead, a military , review at Aldershot, and an air force review. The celebrations in Wales will include a ceremony at which the King will be presented by the Prince of Wales.

During August their Majesties wil ! break their journey to Balmoral at Edinburgh. Arrangements are being made for' the extensive flood-lighting of public buildings, etc., during the celebrations.
