HOLIDAY ATTRACTIONS

A VARIED PROGRAMME. MANY SPORTING FIXTURES.’ With the advent of the Christmas and New Year vacations a big programme of sporting fixtures will be inaugurated in the province. Racing and trotting enthusiasts will find much of interest in the Auckland carnival, which will open on Wednesday with the first day’s programme of the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie. On Thursday the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting will be introduced at Alexandra Park. Good fields have been forthcoming for all events, and interesting racing is indicated. Further afield, there will be racing at New Plymouth, Palmerston North and Waipukurau, and trotting at Carterton.

Several important cricket matches will he decided at Seddon Park during the coming week, principal among these being the meeting of the Auckland B and South Auckland representatives. This match will commence to-morrow. ' A match will be played between Otorohanga and a Hamilton B representative team on Seddon Park on Boxing Day, while another Hamilton B team will travel to Ohaupo to play Waipa on the same day. Wellington Golts will meet South Auckland at Seddon Park on New Year’s Day and January 2. The interest of athletes will be centred in the Springdale sports to be held in the Springdale Domain. Always a popular, fixture, this year’s meeting lias attracted big fields, compelitors coming from all parts of the province. Another big meeting will be held at Whatawhata on New Year’s Day.

Interesting Events.

Bowlers will have several interesting events to occupy their attention. On Wednesday there will be one-day full rink tournaments at Morrlns'villa and Taupiri, while a two-day fixture will be played at Whitiora on December 27 and 28. The annual New Year tournament will take place on the Hamilton green on January 1 and 2, and a similar fixture has been arranged by the Te Arolia Club for the same dates, to be followed by pairs on January 3 and 4. A full rink tournament arranged by the Frankton Club for Boxing Day lias been abandoned on account of insufficient entries. The beaches within easy reach of Hamilton should be well patronised. Already Raglan, Kawliia, Waihi and Tauranga, and other popular resorts, have seen a big influx of visitors from these parts. At the Theatres. . Special programmes will be screened at the theatres, attractions of great appeal being provided. Here are the Christmas Day attractions; Civic “Princess Charming”; Theatre Royal, “Wonder Bar”; Regent, “ Blossom Time ”; State, “ David Harum”; Roxy, “Voltaire.”
