The Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, and Lady Bledisloe, who arrived at Auckland on Saturday morning have taken up their residence at Government House on a visit that will extend until the middle of January.

The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, reached Auckland on Saturday morning, and left by the Opua express to spend their Christmas at Bayly’s Camp, near Dargaville.

The Hon. Alport Barker, Mayor of Suva, arrived at Auckland by the Niagara last evening on his annual visit to New Zealand.-

The appointment of Constable J. McMullan as bailiff of the Magistrate’s Court at Morrinsville is Gazetted.

Mr R. H. McKenzie, of Pokeno, act-ing-chairman of the New Zealand Cooperative Dairy Company, Lid., is at the Hamilton Hotel.

Mr. Walter C. Weston, of New Plymouth, has been appointed chairman of Hie Egmont National Park Board in succession to the late Mr. T. ■C. List.

. Writers of gossip in the Sunday newspapers say they are confident that Mr. George Arliss, well-known actor, will receive a knighthood in the New Year honours.

Mr W. G. Hammond, of the Hamilton Courthouse staff, has received notice of his transfer to the staff of the Magistrate’s Court, Auckland. He expects to leave Hamilton about the end of next month.
