BEAUTIFUL HYDRANGEAS.

MEMORIAL PARK DISPLAY. OLD GUN BIOAT SITE. ■Providing a display, unequalled for many years past, a profusion of hydrangeas is in full bloom along the riverside parks arid gardens of Hamilton. Although the plants have not been treated by chemical agencies, ■some of the newest shades are represented and in place of the old washy colours there are now some 'Charming .paste] blue, purple and even pink effects. At one point, in (lie Memorial Park, with their roots entwined: in the bulwarks of (lie old gunboat, which brought Hamilton its first settlers over 70 years ago, about 40 'hydrangeas are growing on masse. Although the light, sandy soil and Die lack of rain have had th'cir effect, upoti the growth of the bushes, the blooms do not appear te be greatly .affected and with the river and .neighbouring tropical trees a beautiful background, they form a charming picture. Many of the bustles were obtained from tile tale Mr Archibald, the wellknown Wellington horlirullurisl, and the park curator, Mr W. A. Wallis, has one magnificent deep pink bloom which was obtained from him.
