RUGBY, Dec. 20. • It was announced in the House of Commons to-day that an additional provision of £500,000 would be made available out of the Road Fund for grants to schemes for the reconstruction of weak bridges and other urgent improvements with which the highway authorities are ready to proceed immediately. Grants at a rate of 75 per cent toward 25 bridge schemes, to cost about £400,000, are to be issued at once. These are in addition to about 80 schemes for the reconstruction of weak bridges or the replacing of level crossings at a total of £670,000 which the Minister of Transport, Mr. L. Hore-Belisha, has approved.
