Two persons are dead as the result of a terrific storm which swept southern Queensland last night. ' Enormous hailstones fell and a 78 miles-an-hour hurricane and vivid lightning caused heavy damage in Gharleville and Brisbane.

Over two Inoho-j of rain fell in the city In 26 minutes. Practically every shop In one street was flooded.

Lightning plunged the city into darkness for a quarter of- an hour. The roof of the. Hotel Daniel collapsed’and four floors were flooded. Numerous houses in the suburbs were also unroofed. " ! -

The broadcasting station 4BL was flooded and put out of action for the night.

A fireball struck a big chimney stack at New Farm. Bricks crashed through the roof and chattered a table at which a man and his wife were dining. They escaped Injury.
