Surprise arid concern were expressed at last night’s meeting of the Christchurch Drainage Board, when the Finance Committee stated that correspondence had been received from the town clerk, enclosing a report from the city rate collector that owing to atl error the rate wouid provide only £3IG, Instead Of £31(30.

The rate collector also stated that it was 100 late to Send out fresh demands. The only alternative was to collect the shortage on next year’s demands.

After considering a report by the secretary, to the effect that the failure of the City Council to collect the rate in full would probably cause the board ■serious embarrassment during the remainder of the financial year or the currency of the succeeding year, the board decided to adopt the Finance Committee’s recommendation that the City Council be requested to carry out the Board’s requirements, and take steps to collect the amount requisitioned for.
