YOUTHS ON UNUSUAL CHARGE. An unusual charge was preferred jgainsl three-Rua Roa youths, \V. ft. Taeon, N. K. .tones and \V. ti. C. Inglis, when they appeared in the Dannfevirkc Magistrate’s Court. All three defendants pleaded •guilty to having, caused wilful damage to three cows, owned by Henry Furnam, by having painted them and cut the switch hair from their tails, the total value of the damage being £3. it was staled that on November 23 the three defendants came across complainant’s cows, which were on some land near the Rtia Roa factory. They painted the bodies of the beasts and cut off the switch hair on their tails. When Interviewed defendants could not say why they had • done so, but they considered the cows were a nuisance through being allowed to wander on the roads. ♦ The Magistrate: There was no cruelty to tho cows; they wero not maimed. In reply Sergeant Doggett said that although the cows were not maimed they were deprived of their switch, which would probably take some time to grow. Counsel for defendants said 1 hey had 'done as they did iu the belief that they would prevent the cows from wandering. A tine of 20s each was imposed, an 1 Hie defendanls were ordered to make good the damage.
