VISITING HORSES ON SCENE

KILTOWYN WORKS WELL. VINTAGE AND KING’S MARCH. CRANFORD ALSO PLEASES. (By Telegraph.—press Association.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. Ideal 'conditions prevailed for training operations at Ellerslie this morning. The course proper with the poles 45ft. ■out was open for fast work and the ■going was excellent. Among the Cup candidates the best efforts were registered by Kiltowyn, Vintage and King March, the former traversing a round and the last pair a mile. Over sprint distances Cranford and Sweet Agnes pleased most and Crooning also ■registered! a good effort for one of her class.

On the course proper Gourthaven was first to work and carrying a lightweight got to the end of a mile in 1.44 4-5. Kelly joined in at the seven furlong peg and was doing the better ■of the pair at the finish in 1.3 i 4-5. Copyist jumped off at the seven arid had a lot of pace on. He traversed the first three furlongs in 38 3-5 s and was easing up to run the full distance in 1.38 3-5. Cricket Bat Worked. Cricket Bat, who worked alone over seven furlongs, was timed to run the first half-mile in 52 4-5 s and came home in 1.32 4-5, running on strongly at the end. The Railway Handicap candidate Mother Superior, who went from almost a stand at the five furlong post, ■completed her task in 1.7 2-os.. , the first two furlongs taking 26 2-ss. She had a hit in reserve at the finish. Gay Broney was sent a mile and aquarter in 2.17 3-5, the last round in 2.6 4-5.

Bun Fight ran six furlongs in 1.20 1-5 comfortably. The jumpers Pahu and Gai'amart worked over a round, P'ahu finishing well in front in 2.13 4-s', while Callamart took 2.18.

Crooning was about four lengths in front of Irish Song at the end of half a-mile in 50 2-ss. Crooning worked very freely and her effort was very ■satisfactory.

Cup Candidates. The Cup candidates Vintage and King March were about three lengths in front of Rocket at the conclusion of a ■mile in 1.43 4-ss. They covered the first half-mile in 51 4-5 s and'_ their ■last six furlongs in 1.18 3-5. Vintage and King March were both kept up to their work at the finish and Vintage appeared to he going the easier of the pair though King March, who had the outside running, was right'up with him. Rocket was also staying on at the finish.

Cranford, who looks a fit horse, sprinted half-a-mile in ’sls. He was finishing on. The istablemates Gold Trail and The Khedive were sent a mile in 1.48 4-5. Gold Trail was going easily at the finish and was about half-a-length in front.

Southdown Pleases. Southdown had Baroscope as a companion over seven furlongs, the first half-mile 'taking 54s and the full distance 1.31 2-5. There was nothing between them at the end though Southdown pleased most.

Big Dock ran home from the three furlong post in 40 2-5 - He worked ■freely and could have improved on the time.

Tunneller, Horn’s Reef and! Final Shot, were in line at 'the end of six 'furlongs in 1.20 3-5, 'the first three furlongs in 39 i-ss. All worked freely. Sweet Agnes and Maroha were in front of Air Lassie at the conclusion of five furlongs in 1.4 1-5, the first two in 25 s.

Hounslow was given useful work over seven furlongs which he covered in 1.45 1-5,

Sea Fox Impresses. $ . After running his first three furlongs in 38-1-55. Sea Fox impressed more than Princess Bede at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. Sea Fox is in first-rate order.

After breakfast Iviltowyn worked alone over a round and going very evenly througout recorded 2.4 3-5. He ran the last seven furlongs in 1.31 3-5, six in 1.19 2-5 and the final halfmile in 53 i-ss. lie was running on soundly at the finish and his effort was a good cne.

Chromad/yne, Kilmuir and Verden were companions over two schooling hurdles in the centre of the course and got through their task safely. Sandy Dix gave a satisfactory display over •four hurdles on the .same track.

Over the Big Country

Billy Boy and Wee Pat jumped the steeplechase fences on the fiat giving a safe display. Billy Boy repeated the performance alone, fencing -well. Free Air started off over the steeplechase fences on the fiat hut hit the first obstacle, the\sodwall, and unseated her rider. She was remounted and jumped Hie fence safely, afterwards going over the double andi stonewallHer showing did not impress.

Yalpcen was sent over a round of the steeplechase course, giving an attractive display of jumping. He started at the sodwalLandi had Absent as a companion as far as the brush fence by the mile post, Absent then being pulled up. This horse also jumped in good style. Colsfleld and En Tour were also schooled over Hie steeplechase fences on the fiat and got through their task safely.

Visitors Exercised. Golden Wings and Jayson, who arrived last night, were out doing easy exercise on (lie sand track this morning. They both looked well, particularly Golden Wings. riedi Manfred, Ilaut Monde and Kolou, who also readied Ellerslie last night, were out walking in the centre of Hie course. « Riding Engagements.
