Mr Gene Sarazen, the famous American golfer, is visiting Hamilton.

Mr A. J. Shaw, New Zealand open golf champion, is in Hamilton.

Major W. K. Fraser-Tytler has been appointed British Minister at Kabul in succession to Sir Richard Maconaehie.

Sir John Harvey, Chief Judge in Equity, has announced his retirement from the Supreme Court Bench of New South Wales from the end of the month owing to failing eyesight.

Mr J. K. Aroher has been reelected chairman of the Christchurch Tramway Board, and Mr E.*J. Howard, M.P., deputy-chairman.

Mr M. J. Savage, Leader of the Opposition, returned to Auckland yesterday after addressing meetings in a number of North Island centres.

Detective C. 11. Belton, who has been transferred to Hamilton, was presented with a gold wristlet watch and a travelling rug by the detective staff at Auckland.
