THE FRIENDLY ROAD.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —Had "Not So Friendly" known anything at all about “The Friendly Road” he would surely not have written such a misleading and uncharitable letter. He would have known that “The Friendly Road" is not an “organisation” nor a “religious body.” There are no "members” or “adherents” in the accepted meaning of these words. There are no “membership forms” to sign. The idea originated with the Auckland city missioner, the. Rev. G. G. Scrlmgeour, of broadcasting messages of good cheer to all who cared to list6n-in, to be a help to all who wanted to walk pn the Friendly Road of Life with their', neighbours. I have been a regular listener for nearly two years, and have never heard an unkind word spoken. On the contrary, charity of judgment, infinite toleration of another’s opinions, kindliness and helpfulness to one’s neighbours, and a sincere attempt to follow the teaching of the Carpenter of Nazareth are the subjects of the daily talks of “Uncle Scrim.” The necessary expenses of conducting the IZB Broadcasting Station are met by freewill contributions from tiiose listeners.who feel that “The Friendly Road” is worthy of support. Those who do send in their quarterly contributions are quite satisfied about the way the money is spent, and they are the only people concerned. I hope "Not So Friendly” will go to “The Friendly Road” meeting next Sunday afternoon, at the Ferry Bank. He will then see the Nazi leaders he is so concerned about, and possibly may go home a happier and a wiser man. —I am, etc.,
