CYCLE ROAD RACING.
SATURDAY’S EVENT. 28-MILE lIAUTAPU RIDE Although tbe weather was fine o; Saturday the strong wind was against any fast times being registered in the cycle road race to Hautapu, Pukeroro and back. The event was run by the Hamilton Amateur Sports Club, and a small field of 12 riders faced the ■starter, the limit men being off iOmin 45sec. At the hill turn Hodgson, Shaw, Watkins and Lentfer had caught Rogers, jun., and Hawkins, but the rest of the field had held their positions. Hawkins’ chain then broke, and later on Hodgson had a puncture. Rogers and Uaylor, off tbe limit, had kept together well, and were going well. Campbell, the olljer limit man, had to retire with cycle trouble, bub the back men, at eight miles lo go, had caught Wallace and Barnett. into the straight came Rogers, sen., and Gnylor, and in a. very good finish Rogers gained the verdict. ft was not until 3min later that the next hunch came into sight. Lentfer jumped out lo beat Watkins and Wallace, who dead-heated, followed hy Shaw and Barnett. The results were: J. Rogers, sen. (10.55), 81.23, 1 ; G. Gaylor (10.45), 81.24, 2; N. Lentfer (ser), 73.42, 3. Fastest time: N. Lentfer (73.42).
