HORSES IN DEMAND.

OFFERING AT CAMBRIDGE. SPRING FAiR ENTRIES. SOUND PRICES REALISED. (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Wednesday. With a large and representative bench of buyers in operation, the Spring I-lorse Fair, conducted by the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, was continued at Cambridge to-day. Some excellent animals were penned and -many of the entries excited keen bidding. All the animals came forward in good condition, and were of a standard to create a keen demand. Again good, sound utility farm horses were keenly sought after. During the day' the 170 horses offered were mainly choice broken draughts, being the annual consignments from local breeders, together with a special entry from the Gisborne district. Competition was extremely keen throughout and some extra good averages have been obtained. Especially was this noticeable on young heavy draughts and prices all round were almost £lO per head higher than last year. The top average was obtained by Mr A. R. Turnbull, of Fort, Galatea, whose seven horses, ranging from three to five years, averaged £47 10s. Messrs Duncan Bros.’ choice consignment of 14 horses, averaged £47 2s. The first ten horses offered by Mr W. Wilson, of Gisborne, averaged £33 16s, while a consignment from Mr J. King, also of Gisborne, realised prices from £23 to £3l 10s. Sale of Stallions. During the day three draught stallions were offered, the highest price paid being £BO by Mr T. Slater for a choice two-year Clydesdale colt offered on account of Mr W. G. Park, Te Awamutu. Mr K. S. Browne, of Cambridge, .paid 42gns. for a bay two-year-old colt bred by Mr T. Williamson (Otorohanga), while Mr H. Watkins (Cambridge) paid 40gns. for a brown three-year colt bred by Messrs Fletcher Bros. Broken Draughts. Further quotations are:— On account R. Carson - (Roto-o-rangi), aged bay mare, to R. Jones (Te Awamutu), £25 10s. On account H. Osborne (Horahora), four year bay mare, to 11, N. Taylor (Patetonga), £3l. On account R. Thomas (Ngahinapouri), seven year bay mare- to Sweetman Bros. (Te IJku), £4l. On account of D. Sainsbury (Pulcetaha), five year brown gelding to R. D. Knight, £47. ■On account S. Limmer (Te Kowhai), three year bay gelding, to R. D. Knight, £46 10s; five year mare to J. Houston, £49; eight year brown gelding to N. V. 1-layle (Fencourt), £34 10s. On account Waipa County Council, seven year bay gelding, to Reg Thomas (Ngahinapouri), £33 10s. On account Ilerbi rt Bros. (Rotongaro), three year bay gel ’irg to F. V. Pilling (Morrinsvillc), £3B.
