THE FAULT NOT SERIOUS. ASSURANCE BY ENGINEER. The district electrical engineer, Mr T. McLennan, said yesterday that t!ic leak at Arapuni bad almost stopped since tarpaulins had been placed in position. The volume of water .had been reduced lo a lentil of its former j flow, since the fault was discovered, and a portion of the balance was due lo ordinary seepage from ihe surrounding country. Grouting work was proceeding, and would take the permanent place of the tarpaulins in slopping the How. Mr MacLennan added that the leak was not comparable with Ihe one which occurred about two years ago. It was also mentioned tlial there had been no trouble with leaks for some two years, and that, with an undertaking the size of Arapuni, t lie present slight fault was not serious.
