OX BEEF FIRM.

LATE VALUES MAINTAINED FRANKTON STOCK SALE. BIG DEMAND FOR EWES. There was a larger yarding of ox beef at the weekly stock sale at the Frankton yards yesterday, when the animals, though heavier, were not in quite as good condition as the previous week. There was a good demand and competition was keen, and prime ox quotations were n rna - Some excellent prices were obtained, nevertheless, Messrs Taylor Bros selling two extra prime bullocks 101 £ll 10s- , „, cri The yarding of cow beef was also larger than last week, but here the demand was very keen and the increased quotations ruling of late were well maintained. The quality of the cows was first class. Fat wethers were penned In very large numbers and again met a ready ■sale, though values were easier than the previous week. There was a, good yarding of ewes, and pnm sorts were eagerly sought after, quotations showing a marked improvement. Hoggets were also in demand and sold readily. Pigs came forward in good numbers and with a keen inquiry values improved still further. The following table shows the comparison between this and last weeks rates: —

Individual Consignments. Top price in the ox beef section this week was £ll 10s obtained by Messrs Taylor Bros., of Taupiri, for two extra choice bullocks. The same vendors sold two other prime bullocks for £ll 5s and two for £ll Is. It was an excellent line. Mr A. McNicol, of Te Aroha, received £lO 9s for one choice bullock, £9 5s for two olhers and £8 17s for another. Mr T. M. Hall sold a bullock for £8 15s, while the Paerangi Estate obtained £9 i-is for three, £9 8s for one, and £9 for two others. A prime bullock on account of Mr J. Scott, of Newstcad, realised £9 , is. The top price for cow beef was £8 15s obtained by Mr J. Scott, of Newstead. The same vendor received £7 11s and £7 Is for choice heifers. Mr C. Parry, of Rukuhia, sold a prime heifer for £7, while Mr J. 11. Elliott, of Hamilton, received £7 11s and £7 10s for two choice heifers. Messrs Norrish Bros., Kaipaki, disposed of one prime heifer for £7 10s, two for £7 2s, one for £7 arid one for £6 17s. \ line of choice wethers on account of Mr E. Johnstone, of Matamata, topped the sheep market, ten realising 30s Gd and 50 realising 30s. A consignment of 38 prime wethers, from Messrs Van Houtte and Nollett, Te Uku, made 29s 9d, and 29 from Messrs 'Wilson and Wright, Ngaruawahia, realised 29s 3d. Mr 11. Cornfoot, of Otorohanga, sold 18 prime wethers for 29s 3d. Ewes were in great demand and realised high values. " Ten prime maiden ewes on account of Messrs Wilson and Wright realised 28s. Prime fat ewes from Mr W. Lofthouse made to 28s 9d, 17 realising 25s 6d, Messrs Wilkinson Bros, sold 8 at 28s, and Mr B. M. Phillips! of Te Mata, sold a similar number, for. 265. 6d. The Ruakura Government Farm received 27s 3d for 17 choice ewes. Hoggets also sold well, 'Mr C. A. Yeoman, of Whatawhata, selling some up to 27s 6d and Mr S. Thero was a heavy yarding of cow and heifer beef, the greater proportion being first quality for which the market was firm. Second quality cows and heifers remained firm with a slight improvement towards the close of the sale. Cows and heifers on account of Mr John Scott of Newstenjl realised from £5 to £8 15s. Pigs: A heavy Yarding of fat pigs came forward, competition being very keen and a good sale resulted with values in advance of last week’s rates. Tho New Zealand Loan ancl Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, report on their weekly Frankton stock sale held yesterday as follows: —- Cattle. —A average yarding of fat bullocks drew spirited competition and buvers were keen to purchase at prices well up to recent quotations. A large yarding of fat cows ancl heifers were also In demand, and values throughout remained firm. Store and boner cows were yarded in average numbers and values' were unchanged. We quote: —Good prime fat bullocks, £9 to £9 Its; fat, £8 to £9; medium quality, £6 17s to £7 10s; good prime fat cows, £6 15s to £7 is; fat cow 3, £5 10s to £6 12s; medium, £4 to £o ss; light, £a to £4 ; ldllable, £2 5s to £2 15s; good stores, £1 8s to £1 17s 6d; others, £1 to £1 ss; cull cows, 10s to 15s; medium quality P.A. empty run 18-months-old heifers up to £2 10s. Fat owes were again yarded in small numbers and were keenly sought after, values remaining firm at late rates. Values on an average yarding of fat hoggets 1 remained firm at late rates. Pigs.—Our yarding of pigs comprised a heavy entry of quality fat pigs and an equally large one of good stores and weaners. Heavy baconers showed a distinct increase on last week’s rates. Lighter fat pigs werenoi. so much in demand and accordingly decreased slightly. Store and weaner pigs remained firm at late rates. We quote:—Heavy baconers, £3 5s to £3 11s; medium, £2 14s to £2 19s; light baconers and heavy porkers, £2 to £2 9s; medium porkers, £1 10s to £1 16s; light, £i 6s to £1 10s; good stores, £1 4s to £i 8s; medium stores, 18s to £1 2s; best weaners, 12s Gd to 16s Gd; others, 7s to lls 6d.

Sheep: A heavy yarding of fat wethers and ewes came forward. The demand for fat wethers was not as keen as that of the previous week and prices eased slightly while fat ewes sold readily at latest quotations. Heavy fat wethers sold from 29s to 29s Oil; lighter, 27s fid to 2Ss Gd; prime maiden ewes, to 28s; heavy fat ewes, 25s to 26s 3d; lighter fat ewes, 21s to 23s Gd: prime fat lioggels, 25s to 27s Gd; medium weights, 22s to 23s Gd; light. 18s to 21s.

Cattle: A full yarding of ox and cow beef met with a ready sale at rales fully equal to those of the previous week.
