GROWTH OF WINTER SHOW

A valuable addition to the amenities of Hamilton will be provided by. the erection of a new exhibition hall by the Waikato Winter Show Association, which has authorised the immediate commencement of work, involving an expenditure of about £5600. Both as a stimulus to local employment, and as symptomatic of general recovery, the scheme is to be welcomed, and the Association is to he congratulated on the enterprise it has shown.

The details of the building furnished by the architects suggest that it will not be limited in its usefulness to the period of the show, but will provide a much-needed service in the town, as well as being a handsome addition to the existing buildings. The Waikato Winter Show has for so long been carried on under cramped conditions that this expansion should be hailed with pleasure by the general public, who will thus be able to inspect an important section of the exhibition under conditions of far greater comfort than in previous years.

The wisdom of the step is borne out by the figures submitted to the executive yesterday by the secretary, which show the Association to be in a sound financial position. During the past ten years the Association has been able to show a profit of over £IO,OOO, the result partly of continued public support and partly of efficient administration and management. There is therefore no question of l-aising a loan for the building proposal, and the Association is indeed fortunate in being able to accomplish out of its funds such a praiseworthy object.
