SUPPORT FOR WIDOW.

FURTHER RELIEF GRANTED. MINING ENGINEER’S ESTATE. An application for further relief from the estate of Neil Dundonald Cochrane, mining .engineer, of Waihi, was made in the Supreme Court, Hamilton, before Mr Justice Herdman this morning on behalf of Rachel Cochrane, aged 76 years, widow of the deceased. Mr J. F. Strang appeared for the widow, Mr 11. J. McMullin for the advisory trustees and the adult beneficiaries, and Mr F. A. de la Mare for the Public Trustee, as executor, and for the infant beneficiaries. Mr Strang said there was one surviving son of the deceased, J. M. Cochrane, manager of the National Bank at Te Aroha, other beneficiaries being a widow and four sons of another son, who was drowned. Deceased, who died in September, 1932, made his last will in March, 1931, when he was very ill. It was thought that the estate would be worth more than it was and would be sufficient to maintain the widow. At death the estate, which consisted largely of mining shares,.was worth £4500, but since then the shares had appreciated and was now worth £5500, the income now derived being about £136 a year. The widow had not had the benefit of the increased value of the estate. Under the will, added Mr Strang, the widow received £25. the furniture, and a life interest in the balance of the estate. After her death the life interest went to her son, J. M. Cochrane, and daughter-in-law, Mrs Ada Cochrane, and afterwards to their respective children. All parties interested in the estate were unanimous that the widow should have her life Interest increased from £136 a year to £240 a year. After the other counsel had concurred His Honour gave his consent to the proposal and made an order accordingly.
