Moving with unexpected speed across Manchurian plains in motor trucks a strong detachment of troops from the Harbin garrison cut off the retreat of Hie bandits who were responsible for the train outrage on Thursday.

The troops succeeded in releasing the two American captives, Messrs Lury and Johanson, also all the Japanese captives. All were unharmed. A furious engagement preceded the release. The bandits, who numbered 150, finally abandoned their prisoners and’ scattered under heavy machinegun fire. A later message states that the bandits were pursued and exterminated.
