HOCKEY TOURNEY.
KING’S BIRTHDAY FIXTURE OVER 30 TEAMS COMPETING. Nearly 40 teams have signified their Intention of participating in the King’s Birthday seven-aiside tournament organised by the Waikato Hockey Association, which will be held in Hamilton on Monday. In past years districts in all parts of the province have been represented, and it is anticipated that this season a record number of clubs will be taking part. Games are to be contested at Steele Park and Boyes Park. INTER-UNIVERSITY TOURNEY.. (By TelegranTi.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The annual inter-university hockey tournament began this afternoon, conditions being gooS. All four colleges were represented.
In the first round Otago defeated "Auckland. Both teams scored one goal each, Cawkwell for Otago and A. Broun' for Auckland-. Extra time was required and the game was awarded to Otago, which was the first to get the ball over their opponents’ goal-line, although not in the net. Canterbury, 4 (Hayes t, Dufileld 1, Ford 2), beat Victoria College, 1 (Denby). , Women’s Section. Victoria College, 3 (Misses Dive, Harding, Jones), beat Auckland, 2 (Miss Barr). Otago beat Canterbury after extra time, when the former were the first to get the ball across their opponents’ goal-line, although there was one goal all. Miss M. Rayne scored for Otago and Mis 3 Goodsell for Canterbury,
