DANCE AND GLEE CLUB. The Dance and Glee Club held a practice on Tuesday, when a Fair number attended. Messrs. C. McDonald and Allan Boyd were M.’sC. for the dancing. A Ajonte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs McDonald and'Mr S. Waller. Hall Committee. At the annual meeting of the Kaipaki i Hall Committee only a small number was present. Mr J. Boyd presiding. .Mr Roy Speake (secretary and treasurer) read a very favourable report and balance-sheet. it is hoped, in the near future, to be able to enlarge* and line the supper-room and to build a fireplace and chimney. After a rote of thanks had been tendered the retiring committee, it was deI cided that it be returned en bloc. Mr J. Boyd and Mr R. Speake were reelected chairman and secretary «‘spectively, the other' members being Messrs. - J. Graham, H. Goodwin, j. Speake, W. Willoughby and W. Tho fortnightly meeting or the Loyal Waitoa Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held on Tuesday evening when Miss 11. J. Bigwood, A’.G., presided. One new member was initiated. Bigwood and Miss It. E. Clielllligs. -OTOROHANGA. RUGBY. A nne Rugby contest was enjoyed at Hangatikl, when the local team was narrowly defeated by Pio Plo by 3 points to nil. Girl Guides. The Ilangatiki Girl Guides were well supported by the Otorohanga Corps on the occasion of their first anniversary birthday party. The acting of the Guides in the play, “Doris in Badgeland,” was ravourably commented upon. Tile president, Mrs Downard, cut the birthday cake. The president and the captain were the recipients of presentations from the Guides. The Girl Guide movement has taken a i firm hold throughout this—territory. MATAMaTA. i 1 Vital Statistics, Tho vital statistics ror Matamata for the month of May are as follows, those for the corresponding month last year being given in parentheses:—Births 10 (15), deaths 0 (0), marriages 4 (8). Frosts. As reported by Mr W. Halligan there were 12 frosts during the month of May. The heaviest was 11.8 degrees on the 19th inst. Rainfall. The rainfall In Matamata Tor May as reported by Mr E. A. Pickering, was 4.44 tn., which fell on 13 days, the heaviest fall being on May 3, when 2.601 n. were registered. The fall recorded in May of last year was 6.-16 in. The highest fall since 1923 was 9.45 in. in 1920. ROTOTUNA. MISSIONARY ADDRESS. A very interesting missionary address was delivered by Rev. ir. T. Peat, of Hamilton, at the meeting or the Hototuna Methodist Bible Class. The choir rendered the antliem, “Pass It On,’’ and the sacred solos, “Working with Jesus,” by Mrs Chapman and “Come, Holy Spirit,” by Miss Viola Miers were much appreciated. A prayer circle concluded a most profitable evening. Operetta Presented. Rototuna residents enjoyed a treat on Saturday evening, when the St. Andrew’s Girls’ Koa. Club visited tile district and presented the operetta, “The Princess of Poppy Land.” The hall was filled, the Interest or the audience being hold throughout. The Rev. J. llaslop thanked the performers for tlie entertainment. Ping Pong and Badminton. The Ping Pong and Badminton Clubs are showing great enthusiasm at present. On Tuesday evening the Puketalia Ping Pong Club members visited Rototuna and a match was played which resulted in a win for the visitors by 10 sets to 4. TAIHOA. PING PONG CLUB. A Ping Pong Club, organised by Mr T. Black, lias been formed in ‘the district, and bids fair to prove a great source or amusement. The opening night was, held on Tuesday evening, when three tables were kept busy wiih a doubles tournament, the winners being Miss P. .Mason and Mr R. Torrens. A knock-out single was held, Mr T. Bluclc proving the winner, with Mr T. Thornton as runner-up. There were about mirty members present and also a number of visitors from the surrounding districts. Personal. Mrs W. J. Knight has returned to her homo at Papatoetoe, arter a fortnight,s holiday spent with her daughter, Mrs T. Bluck. Bride-to-be Honoured. On Tuesday arternoon a very pleasant afternoon was spent In the Institute room at the Tailioa Hall, when the members or the Women’s institute and friends met to do honour to Miss M.’ Wright, who is to ho married at an early date. The time was spent with music and competitions. An amusing reading by Mrs T. Bluck and Miss Betty Madill was much enjoyed. MTs A. Connell took the opportunity to present Miss Wright with a heautirul hemstitched linen table cloth and serviettes to match. Miss Wright suitably responded. Musical honours were accorded and the singing or “AHid Lung Syne” brought a very pleasant afternoon to a close. Card Evening. The rourth or the series nr card evenings organised by the Women’s institute was held in the Tailioa Hall on Thursday, when about six tallies were occupied. The lime was spent in progressive 500, tho winners being, ladies, .Mrs Milne; eon- '■ solution, Jlrs R. Holmes.
