HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 20

The flashing brilliance of jewels, the rustle of silk, the lovely luxuriance of furs wrapped around xvhite should-, ers, .paid tribute to the Shan-Kar I Dancers one night last xveek. This J famous troupe of India’s finest dancers has created % sensation throughout Europe and the United States. All that is nexv and beautiful among Fashion’s lavish offerings was seen the opening night, at the Philharmonic Auditorium in Los Angeles. Marlene Dietrich attended in black velvet, her gown having a train, and her wrap being of xvhite ermine collared xvith sable. Emeralds. Norma Shearer’s Attractive Frock. Norma Shearer, accompanied by her husband, Irving Thalberg, wore an attractive evening frock of cerise satin, xvith a cloth of gold jacket with ermine collar. Mrs. Clark Gable wore a gown of silver-dotted ivory chiffon and a coal of cocoa ermine. Rubies. Mrs. Louis B. Mayer chose a flesh chiffon gown, brilliantly beaded and chinchilla wrap. Anita Page xvore a youthful black lace frock xvith black velvet xvrap. Kay Francis xvas noticed xvearing a water-rose crepe gown and a brocaded coat, featuring a gold-buttoned Chinese neckline. Polly Moran was in jade green lace, xvith peach velvet xx-rap, bordered xvith mink. Dolores Del Rio xvore black velvet with coat showing xvhite fox trimmings. Charlotte Henry (xvho is 1o be ‘Alice in Wonderland") wore a delightful frock of powder blue crepe with a diminutive collarette of matching pleated tulle. Toby Wing wore green lace and was accompanied by William Bakewell.

Peaches Jackson xvas smartly goxvned in orange and silver brocade. Her xvrap xx - as of -black velvet bordered with mink.

Helen Vinson chose gold plaid taffeta, xx’ith a cape of Russia fitch. Sally Eilers wore moonstone-blue velvet and cloth of gold xvrap.

Fan Regains Popularity

Women are flirting with the fan again—sartorially speaking. It is only right that the fan again should take its place as one of the delightful accessories that can add so much to the evening mode. Accessory shops and many jewellers are showing striking ■models. Ail sorts of materials are used, starched chiffon, in the form of large petals, being extremely popular. Velvet and paillettes arc also used and there are always many women xvho are addicted lo the elaborate tan of coq or ostrich. Stephanie Stephans, society girl, xvas glimpsed lunching at Hie Beverly Brown Derby recently'wearing a smart afternoon suit of black corded wool, xvith blouse of ivor> pin-tucked satin. Her accessories were of black antelope. Jack Sturtevant, clever young-man-about-town, accompanied her.
