Ulm stated: “I want to get to New Zealand as speedily a 3 possible, but while there is a shadow, of risk attached to the trip I will not go. The latest reports show an abatement of the winds over the Tasman, and if continued I propose to leave about five o’clock in the afternoon. The plane’s wflreless equipment will enable me to keep in touch with Australian and New Zealand stations throughout the journey."
