WAIKATO NONAGENARIAN.,
MR ANDREW F. BARDEN, FORMER TIRAU FARMER. (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Friday. Mr Andrew Francis Barden, of William Street, Cambridge, celebrated his 90th birthday yesterday. A resident of Cambridge for the past five years, and a former well-known Tirau farmer, Mr Barden was born In County Wexford, Ireland. He spent has early life in the district of his birth and for some time was a poorrate. collector. With his wife and members of his family he came to New Zealand in 1906 and a yeaf later took up farming at Tirau, from which he retired in 1928. His wife died in 1920 after rearing a family of 14 children.
Despite his advanced years, Mr Barden enjoys fair health, and with, the exception of slight deafness he is possessed of all his faculties. In his earlier years he was a keen sportsman, and 'his hobby was horses. As a young man in Ireland he was actively associated with the sport of coursing and was also a member of the Wexford Hunt Club. Mr Barden is a keen reader and takes a lively interest In all the affairs of the day. He says he is hopeful of reaching the century. Of Mr Barden’s family four sons and four daughters are living. They Include Mrs P. E. Malloy, of Roto-o-rangi, Mrs J. T. Orr, of Khvitahi, and Misses J. and M. Barden, of Cam* bridge.
