CLAIM FOR SLANDER.
£ls DAMAGES AWARDED. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Damages amounting to £ls and costs were awarded by Air Stilwell, S.M., to-day, against J- T. Owen In a slander action brought by T. 11. Johnston. ■Plaintiff alleged that defendant used the words in public hearing on September 5: “1 see that they put you in gaol for stealing fruit. That's where they ought to keep you.” Plaintiff had not been in gaol. Another man of the same name iiad been before the court for stealing fruit from an auction mart.
