ACCIDENT AT WAIHI.
MINERS AWARDED COMPENSATION. WAIHI, Wednesday. Nine men who were injured when the cage in which they were being lowered to work in the No. 2 shaft in the Waihi mine on July 26 broke away and fell more than 1000 ft., claimed in special and general damages more than £4OOO from the Waihi Gold Mining Company, Limited, in the Warden's Court to-day. The court awarded damages and costs to ihe plaintiffs as follows: John Arnold, £203 damages and £l6 13s costs; John Follas, £IS3 7s and £ll 3s; William Kemp, £258 Is and £l9 2s; Edward Shergold, £221 12s and £l9 7s Gd; Roy Johnson, £205 9s Gd and £IG 9s; Cyril Thornton, £lB3 17s and £ll 3s Gd; F. E. Gorncs, £4lB IGs and £25 3s Gd; H. G. Cornes, £383 8s and £27 9s; Leonard Coward, £452 Is and £26 15s.
