GIFT AFTERNOON. Mrs G. Howie was hostess at a delightful gift afternoon, at her home, Thames Street, Morrinsville, given for Miss Doreen Cargill, whose marriage will take plaoe shortly. The reception room was tastefully Arranged with bowls of gerberas, popples and antirrhinums. Two amusing competitions were won by Mrs H. Mills and Miss A. Jaokson.

After a dainty afternoon tea had been served the guest of honour was called upon to open a large assortment of attractive gifts, which spoke the good wishes of her many friends. A dainty posy of carnations was presented to Mrs Cargill. Mrs Howie received the guests In a frook of blaok georgette. Among those present were: —Mesdames Cargill, N. Howies C. M. Gummer, R. B. KITCHEN AFTERNOON. A delightful kitohen afternoon, arranged by the Morrinsville Girl Guide committee and guides was held at the home, of Mrs J. Arndt, Allen Street, in honour of Miss D.' Cargill. A large muster of guides and gulders, past and present, brownies and parents were present to show their appreciation of the work Miss Cargill had done for the guides and brownies. Miss Cargill has been connected with the guides since their inception eight years ago, and as their lieutenant, has done much for the welfare of the company. A happy afternoon was spent with tennis, clock golf and target croquet. The winners of the competitions were Airs Bernstein, Mls-s F. Hawkins and Airs N. Howie. Folk dancing by the guides and brownies was much enjoyed by all. A “jolly treasure,” by the guides and brownies Anally revealed a box of kitchen gifts for Miss Cargill. The large array of useful gifts betokened the love and esteem In which Aliss Cargill was held by all. In a happy little ceremony, Brown Owl Ruth Alarra and the brownies presented the guest of honour with a posy of sweetpeas and a handsome picture, each brownie expressing her wish for Miss Cargill’s happiness. On behalf of the guides’ committee Airs Gummer made a presentation of a valuable clook, and thanked Miss Cargill for her work In connection with the guides. Patrol Leader Alargaret Ferguson presented, on behalf of the guides, a cookery book autographed by the guides. On behalf of the guides, their captain, Aliss H. Arndt, presented Miss Cargill with a crystal rose bowl as a token of their love and appreciation. Aliss Cargill suitably returned thanks. A dainty afternoon tea was then served by the guides.
